海外の小学校（Primary）の算数では、時計の読み方や曜日・月・暦の言葉が早い時期に出てきます。日本では『何時何分』とそのまま読みますが、英語では quarter past（15分過ぎ）や half past（30分）のような独特の言い方をします。さらに、12時間制と24時間制、a.m./p.m. の使い分け、fortnight（2週間）や leap year（うるう年）のような日本語にない単語も登場します。この単語帳では、時刻と暦に関する英語を、読み方と例文つきでまとめました。毎日の生活でも使う言葉なので、声に出して練習すると自然に身につきます。
ENan exact hour with zero minutes, like 3 o'clock
和〜時ちょうど。ちょうどの時刻を表す言い方（〇時0分）。
例It is three o'clock now. → 今はちょうど3時です。
EN15 minutes after the hour
和15分過ぎ。quarter は4分の1で、1時間の4分の1＝15分のこと。
例It is quarter past two. → 2時15分です。
EN30 minutes after the hour
和30分過ぎ。half は半分で、1時間の半分＝30分のこと。
例We meet at half past six. → 6時30分に会います。
EN15 minutes before the next hour
和〜時15分前。次の時刻まであと15分、という言い方。
例It is quarter to nine. → 8時45分＝9時15分前です。
ENa.m. is morning, p.m. is afternoon and evening
和午前（a.m.）・午後（p.m.）。1日を正午で2つに分ける表し方。
例School starts at 8 a.m. → 学校は午前8時に始まります。
ENtelling time from 1 to 12 using a.m. and p.m.
和12時間制。a.m./p.m. を付けて1〜12時で表す時刻の言い方。
例In the 12-hour clock we use a.m. and p.m. → 12時間制では a.m. と p.m. を使います。
ENtelling time from 00:00 to 23:59 straight through
和24時間制。0時から23時まで通しで表す言い方。午後1時は 13:00。
例Half past one in the afternoon is 13:30. → 午後1時30分は 13:30 です。
ENa unit of time; 60 minutes make one hour
和分（ふん）。1時間は60分。時間の単位のひとつ。
例There are sixty minutes in one hour. → 1時間は60分です。
ENthe smallest basic time unit; 60 seconds make a minute
和秒（びょう）。1分は60秒。時間のいちばん小さい基本の単位。
例There are sixty seconds in one minute. → 1分は60秒です。
ENa unit of time; 24 hours make one day
和時間（じかん）。1日は24時間。1時間は60分。
例The film lasts two hours. → その映画は2時間続きます。
ENhow long something lasts from start to finish
和継続時間。始まりから終わりまでにかかる長さ。
例Find the duration of the journey. → その移動にかかった時間を求めなさい。
ENa chart of times for lessons, buses, or trains
和時間割・時刻表。授業やバス・電車の時刻をまとめた表。
例Look at the bus timetable. → バスの時刻表を見なさい。
ENa year with 366 days; February has 29
和うるう年。2月が29日まである年。4年に1度くらい来る（その年は366日）。
例A leap year has 366 days. → うるう年は366日あります。
ENa period of two weeks (14 days)
和2週間（14日間）。イギリス英語でよく使う言い方。
例A fortnight is two weeks. → fortnight は2週間のことです。
ENa period of ten years
和10年間。年を10ずつまとめた単位。
例A decade is ten years. → decade は10年間のことです。
ENa period of one hundred years
和世紀・100年間。年を100ずつまとめた単位。
例A century is one hundred years. → century は100年間のことです。
