分数のはじめ

Introduction to Fractions

分数は「全体をいくつかに等しく分けたうちの、いくつ分か」を表します。 $\frac{3}{4}$ なら、全体を4つに分けたうちの3つ分です。下の数を分母、上の数を分子といいます。

A fraction shows how many equal parts of a whole we have. For example $\frac{3}{4}$ means 3 out of 4 equal parts. The bottom number is the denominator and the top number is the numerator.

$\frac{分子}{分母}$ のように書きます。分母は「全体をいくつに分けたか」、分子は「そのうちいくつ分か」を表します。

We write $\frac{numerator}{denominator}$ . The denominator tells how many equal parts the whole is divided into; the numerator tells how many of those parts we take.

同じ大きさの分数

Equivalent fractions

分子と分母に同じ数をかけても、分数の大きさは変わりません。たとえば $\frac{1}{2} = \frac{2}{4} = \frac{3}{6}$ です。

Multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number does not change the value. For example $\frac{1}{2} = \frac{2}{4} = \frac{3}{6}$ .

\frac{1}{2} = \frac{1 \times 2}{2 \times 2} = \frac{2}{4}
