How learning works
From one-to-one lessons to homework, submission, marking and a record of weak points, each week's learning feeds into the next lesson. We share progress with your family through meetings and reports.
Each week, step by step
Check understanding in a one-to-one lesson
In a one-to-one Zoom lesson, the tutor checks the school's progress and the work done so far. The day's content is then taught to fit your child's understanding and sticking points.
Receive a week's homework on lesson day
The tutor and our head office team prepare work for your child alone, to be done before the next lesson. It is sent in one batch on lesson day, so that what was learnt in the lesson carries on into study at home.
Work through it on worksheets and in the app
Bilingual (Japanese–English) worksheets and the app are used for different things. Arithmetic and vocabulary are drilled repeatedly, while written answers and proofs are done by hand, depending on what is being learnt.
Submit completed work by photo
Completed worksheets are photographed on a phone or similar device and submitted through the app. This keeps a record not only of the answers but of the working, so the thinking along the way can be checked.
Review methods through marking and feedback
Students go through the marking, feedback and explanations that come back. They review not just whether each answer was right, but also the steps of the method, checking their answers, and the places where mistakes are easy to make.
Log weak points and carry them into the next lesson
We record which topic, and which idea within it, caused difficulty. The next homework and lessons are built from that record, so the student can keep working on the same weak point.

Student, parent and our head office team look back on progress together and discuss next month's goals and how to approach them.

A written report sets out what was covered, what has been achieved, where your child struggled, and the next goals.

Head office contact and the portal
Our head office team is your point of contact for materials, homework, future pathways and scheduling. Homework, submissions and marking are all gathered in our dedicated portal, where you can also see the notifications sent when homework is set and when it is marked.
