Goals
We go beyond the steps of a calculation and build the ability to explain why it works, laying the ground for secondary-school maths and beyond.
- Clear up every sticking point in school maths and do themselves justice in tests
- Get comfortable with English maths vocabulary, building on their understanding in Japanese
- Build the foundations needed to move on to Year 7 and beyond
Lesson format
One-to-one online lessons of 50 or 90 minutes, normally four a month. Twice-weekly plans are also available.
- Choose between lessons taught in Japanese and Full English, where the whole lesson is in English
- Monthly online parent meeting
- Monthly written report on progress and next month's goals
How a lesson runs
Lessons run in this order: homework review → today's unit → solo practice → going over the next homework.
- We go over where your child got stuck in the homework, in their own words
- Worked examples together, setting out the working and the reasoning
- The tutor watches your child work alone and finds the cause of any stumble there and then
- We explain what to work on before the next lesson, in what order and how far

Built around our own bilingual maths textbook, combined with topic worksheets and the “Hope Sansu” workbooks.
- Our own textbook, built on Cambridge Primary and the Japanese curriculum and matched to the school's pace
- Practice worksheets, with difficulty and length adjusted to your child's understanding
- Ikushinsha “Hope Sansu” workbooks (Standard / α) and school-specific supplementary material
- Predicted papers written by head office for the school's test range

Fees
Lessons taught in Japanese are from ¥16,000 a month. Full English fees depend on the tutor and the lesson length.

* The Full English fees in the table are for a Japanese bilingual tutor. Fees with a non-Japanese tutor are given at the consultation.
* The monthly fee includes personal homework, materials and the practice app. Invoices are issued at the start of each month and due on the 10th.
